Transmit App Reviews

Great app, no thanks to Apple

Like the OS X version of Transmit this app lets you upload and download to multiple FTP/SFTP servers easily with one of the best UIs out there. I purchased this app for the full $10 price and its sad that Apple has forced Panic into crippling an app that was working perfectly for no reason other than wanting to control what you can put directly into your own iCloud Drive. Ive gone back to using the 1.1.0 version of this app (restored the .ipa from Time Machine backups) until Apple can realize how petty they are being and lets developers keep their apps working the way they should.

Perfect for moving files around

Fantastic app for moving files around, even if its just locally on the phone. I received at one point an email MIME attachment with 20 MB wma file that only Transmit was able to process - "Open in Transmit" saved my day! From one of the best app developers around. Thanks.

Essential App

Its on all my devices. I really only needed once, and it really earned its place. Now I just use it.

Bad Experience!

I have been using Panic apps for a long time and theyre generally very good. However it seems Transmit has some major issues among its good looks. iCloud Drive consistently closes its screen while Im in the middle of deciding where to put the file. Add to iCloud Drive has never worked. Theres no evidence thats it doing anything when I tap it on the file detail screen either. An upload bar or some kind of indication it was working would be nice. I tried multiple times with a small JPG and an MP3, and neither uploaded after selecting the main folder of my iCloud drive. Also, the app top nav bar doesnt move down when Im using the phone, so I can barely see or tap on the top bar to select items, etc. Really annoying. Overall, a nice looking app and when it does work, its great. I really hope Panic fixes these issues, because I want to rely on this app for a lot of file work.

Beautiful

Id love to be able to have my local folder be my Dropbox library, otherwise this is great!

Simply the best.

Pay attention everyone: THIS is how you do quality software on iOS! First-class experience all the way… Transmit is fully loaded with features and its intuitive and sleek interface make it a joy to use. I love that it provides an iOS extension so I can upload files from almost any app with a Share feature. Incredible work, Panic!

Love this app, but...

I really like this app, but there’s a missing feature that I would love it to be introduced: when I transfer file from iTunes to the application using “File sharing”, it would be awesome to see them in my “local” repository in the application.

Great app!

However it is Broken in iOS9. I do recommend waiting around before getting a similar app though, nothing compares. Panic, is there an update coming out?

Doesnt work with WebDAV, rejecting passcode

Couldnt get Transmit to connect to any of our WebDAV servers - servers that work and are accessible using other iOS apps. After quitting Transmit, its now rejecting my passcode. Utter waste of my time and my $10.

Good

Add please: 1) built-in webdav server to acces transmit app local files from pc over wifi; 2) context menu by sliding right to left on file; 3) normal image viewer with ability to scroll to next or prev image.

First attempt. Realy not bad.

Very nice port of famous Transmit to iOS, thanks. But, please, add possibility to select multiple photos and videos from local Photo Library. To copy many files one by one is really boring and noneffective. Good luck!

Problem fixed

UPD: New version, and iOS8.1.2. The app opens files in Textastic and it can sent it back after editing via share button. Thanks, the problem fixed! Not the most intuitive way, but that might be a question to Textastic. Also, the editing inside the app now works. I wish the built-in editor had customizable font size and family, syntax highlighting and search/replace with RegExp. Ive changed from 2 stars to 4. ------On iOS8.1.1 crashes on every file open. So, no way to check if it sends anything to any editor or even can it edit a file by itself or not. In previous version, the Textastic was excluded from Open in… list. Previously, the app couldnt get edited files from Textastic back to upload. Weird. By now, the app is merely useless. It only can rename files.

Good, but

text encoding cannot be saved! Always return to default and its not Unicode... in my ftp server connection. Pls add ability to save the default encoding for ftp servers!!

SMB support missing

Все отлично, но не хватает поддержки smb. Everythings ok but it would be really cool to get smb support.

Mixed feelings

~~~ I love the app. As the other commenters, however, I think it is only 50% useful without the possibility to sync your favorites with the Mac. Come on, who uses a mobile FTP client seriously without a centralised FTP server list? Only the idea of inserting all that information using the mobile keyboard makes me cry!

File extension problem

When sending JPEG files the app does not respect the file extension. In the case of a .jpg Transmit changes it to .jpeg which cause problems on my server. This is a very frustrating problem that requires changing each file extension manually. Other FTP clients available from the App Store do not have this issue.

Overpriced. Extremely limited. Get filebrowser fromStratospherix

As titled this app is incredibly expensive and offers almost no features. From connection types to the clumsy layout hey use to facilitate drag and drop which works awfully. There is one and only one thing this app does thats worth a salt. You can access it on share settings to upload a bunch of photos straight from photos app rather than having to browse photos within another app. Nuts a nice feature. But for the price youd think outer getting something very special and you arent. The cont support most enterprise solutions. No samba. Thought they finally added WebDAV over a year later. If you need to connect to Windows clients in the enterprise this isnt your app. I expected a lot life and the evolution of this app is INCREDIBLY slow. Its just not worth it not matter how much you think their products for OS X are great. They cant compete here. Stratospherixs filebrowser app is unsurpassed for these types of connections. This app doesnt compare even remotely and its 2-4 times the price. Skip it. And I really hope panic can get it together. Start adding features and stop being so arrogantly proud of this app with its price tag. Just because its expensive doesnt make it good. I expected a desktop class app given the desktop class pricing. What I got was a lesson in beginner features with a pretty looking but incredibly awkward to use ui I hope they consider that losing function for looks is not ok. No samba No real bookmark function for fast access to frequent server / folder locations. No fingerprint authentication for saved servers Incredibly awkward ui and FYI drag n drop doesnt work well on an iPhone Back grounding function doesnt work properly Large number of small files trips up transfers. Incredibly slow advances

Easy to use, no fuss!

Writing to express my gratitude for an amazing app experience! I hardly write reviews but felt compelled to do so in this case. This app is well designed, easy-to-use, and packs in a lot of functionality. Seamless transition from the desktop to mobile.

nice app that could be better

The client is sleek and pretty but its lacking in other areas. Id like to see panic sync on the desktop as well (otherwise whats the point?). Also a way to upload a video without re-compression. And a nice way to upload an entire photo library in bulk. Still waiting on update... Waste of 10$

Panic goes the extra mile

Ive been using Transmit as m y FTP client on my Macs for years. Unfortunately, FTP on iOS hasnt been so easy for me. Prior to Transmit, I tried at least a dozen different iOS FTP apps and none of them worked with our corporate SFTP setup. Before shelling out $10 for Transmit, I sent an email to Panic asking if they could check it for me. I gave them some temporary credentials and they did. They found that it didnt work. Thats when Panic earned my loyalty. They didnt stop at saying "no, it doesnt work," they dug into it and figured out why. The next update, they included a fix. Works great. Thats how you become a great software company.
